I've only known Tom for a little over two years (through Elizabeth, my former neighbor and friend), but in that time I came to know him as a truly wonderful man - intelligent, compassionate, funny, and a love for good times and good food! As caretaker for my Mom (who passed last September) I did not expect Tom to get to know her, but he showed genuine care and love for her all the way up until her death. I have spent the past 3 days getting to know his family a little better, and all I can say he what a profound effect he had on his children, their friends, and his siblings! After a few hours of reminiscing their times growing up in the Runnions household, I felt an empathy rarely felt for a family a barely know, and I cried right alongside them! I have been truly blessed to have known Tom for the brief time I did, I just hope these words encourage his family and friends. I pray for Betty, and for Tom's entire extended family blessings of comfort and peace through this difficult time of transition.

Our dear Tom will be missed immensely. He was a great friend and generous to all who knew him. He was a problem solver every day with his engineer’s mind. He knew how to get things done but more importantly he did them! Whenever we saw him, he was happy, but never happier than Being with his fiancé Elizabeth Celia.

He was tall, with a brilliant smile but also a look of determination. His kindness made him an unsung hero to many. Over the 16 years we knew him, he “adopted” several senior ladies as family. Tom treated them with the respect, consideration and attention as if a special son. In escorting them to RMCBP Hospital Volunteer events, he got their tickets, and made sure to create seating arrangements so they would be included. Anne, Jan, Lucy, Alba and many others will welcome you now to their table in heaven. God Bless Tom’s extended biological family. We thank you for sharing him with us.

What comes to mind most immediately when I think back was that Tom had a smile for everyone and every situation and a solution for every problem. My memories go back over the years to a different time which I was fortunate to have been able to share with Tom as we progressed from youth to adults with growing families. My most cherished memories are of the then Purkess family household,Tom and "Pidge", and the house on Abbey Court, which Tom, with his typical thoroughness, never ceased to re-engineer, upgrade, raise, expand and over build to standards which will outlast the pyramids. Tom was a central part of what I very warmly regarded as my second home. My love and condolences to the Runnions family and all who are close to him. Mark Dempsey (Senior)

Tom was a faithful friend. He excelled in culinary arts and had the gift of hospitality for many of us. He was very large and wonderful presents and we all miss him. So glad we were able to spend a little bit of time with him in the history of the universe.

There are so many wonderful memories of "my" Uncle Tom. As a kid I loved spending my summers at the house on Abbey Ct with Tom, Debbie and my two cousins (even if they were boys!) As a small child he was so big with that deep booming voice that he scared the crap out of me but of course he was just a gentle giant full of love for everyone. (unless we kids made him mad) In today's world it is so comforting to have childhood memories that take us back to a safe, fun-filled, and more idyllic world and Tom is very much a part of mine.
