Robert Tennyson Barrett's Obituary
Robert T. Barrett, 84, of Spring Hill, Florida passed away on 07/19/2016 peacefully in his sleep. His final days were surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was born in Shelby Township, Michigan on January 13, 1932. He graduated from Utica High School in Utica, Michigan in 1950. Robert T. Barrett served in the United States Army Signal Corp. from 1952 to 1954 and received the National Defense Service Medal. When he returned home, he studied Accounting at the University of Detroit on the GI Bill. On December 26, 1952 he married Charlene Beverly Berkau.
Robert T. Barrett was a loving and loyal husband who is survived by his wife, Charlene Beverly Barrett; they were married for 63 years.
Robert was a devoted and loving father survived by his four children: John Henry Barrett, Sandra Ruth Barrett Lindsey, David Lee Barrett, and Robin Lynn Gernigin. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jennifer Barrett, Nathan Barrett, Anthony Barrett, Laura Lindsey, Brian Garcia, Katie Gernigin, Michael Lindsey, Robert Barrett, & Kris Gernigin, 11 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. As well as, being survived by his brothers & sisters: Alfred (Butch) Barrett, Dolores Caswell, Chuck Barrett, & Donald Barrett; many nieces & nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Robert, is predeceased by his parents Alfred & Ruth Barrett, his sister Barbara Jean Paradise, and his eldest son, Randall Donald Barrett, as well as, his grandson James Tyson Barrett.
Being born at the time of the Great Depression instilled in him a strong work ethic which has been passed down to his children. Robert Barrett was a builder in Michigan who took pride in his profession. He was the owner of Barrett Drywall where he employed several of his family members. Later in life he enjoyed making and selling crab traps in Florida. Robert spent most of his life in Michigan and then moved to Texas in the 80's. Around 1984 he moved to Florida where he spent the rest of his days. He was a warm-hearted family man who was always surrounded by family. Robert's life would seem short to many, but those who were touched by his kindness know that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. He was a beloved member of the community. He belonged to the Moose Lodge #521 and was a life time member of the Aripeka Elks Lodge #2520.
The Memorial Services will be held at 11 am on August 19, 2016 at Florida National Cemetery also knovm as Bushnell National Cemetery, U.S. Military Cemetery located at 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513 (352) 793-7740.
Immediately following the service there will be a luncheon at the Moose Lodge #521, located at 5214 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill, Florida 34509 (352) 686-5666.
The family would like to thank the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital and the Haley's Cove Community Living Center - Hospice, the Florida National Cemetery, as well as, the Moose Lodge #521 for their services.
