"Uncle Dick" ....he taught my brothers, Tom and Randy, my sister Cathy and I how to laugh. I think Uncle Dick invented teasing, now an art form. He was so much fun to be around. His wife, Aunt Shirley would try to keep him under control with the teasing which I think made everyone enjoy it all the more. We will ALL miss that. This past weekend I had built a campfire for my daughter and her family to enjoy. As I was sitting in the house the smoke and the smell of the campfire came into the family room. That smell of a campfire is one of those special things in life. My first memorable campfires were those experienced at Camp Iroquois when my brother Tom and I went there way back in the 50s (camp was run by Uncle Dick and Aunt Shirley.....those were the days). First summer I had to go home early due to "homesickness", a bit embarrassing. We learned a lot at Camp Iroquois .........swimming, canoeing, fishing, competing at the evening games, poison ivy ......... And roommates in those small cabins. What a great experience that would not have been possible without Uncle Dick and Aunt Shirley. Thank You! Uncle Dick will be in our hearts and minds forever.

It has been a very long time since I've seen Uncle Dick. But my memories of him have never been stronger.
I think of a very intelligent, quite accomplished, brave and daring, overly friendly, always funny, amazingly caring man with a fixed smile (OK, maybe an intermittent teasing smirk or knowing grin).
In short, I guess, the perfect Dad and Grandpa.

Though I have not seen my uncle for many years, his years of working with children at the YMCA will always be an outstanding memory of mine. His devotion to his family and job were number one priority during his whole life. RIP Uncle Dick...may you now join the many friends and relatives who have been waiting for you to share a joke or kind gesture as always.

He was the most incredible grandpa you could imagine. Grandpa let us have fun, no matter how noisy we were. He always said "take care of yourself before you take care of others", which ended up being advice that helped me many times. It was expected that he would have an index card in his pocket ready to ask you questions to make sure you were on track with whatever you had going on. Even at 87 year old he had the best advice and best information to give. Grandpa will be dearly missed by myself and my son. He was a huge part of our lives, and he will live on in our hearts. Thank you for everything, Grandpa. We love you.
