Nancy Carlson
I was a choir student at the Redmond JH school for 3 years, (61-62, 62-63, 63-64) and a student of Mr. Kunz at Lake Washington HS for 3 years (64-65, 65-66, 66-67) in the concert choir. As a senior in his Music Theory class I was the only one who didn't play in the orchestra or band, meaning I didn't know much about music. He taught me more about music than anyone else!
My choir experience at LWHS included TV appearances and a concert at an Olympia HS after spending most of the afternoon sitting on the side of the road in a broken school bus. He wouldn't let anyone off the bus until the replacement bus arrived hours later! What a trip!
I was a member of college choirs and church choirs, and he was the best director of all.
In concert appearances we were challenged to start each song without obvious prompt of starting notes. (One member had a hidden pitch pipe to give us our starting note and he would snap his fingers and we would start on pitch!)
I still have the LP record he had made of our concerts.
I have great memories of singing for him. It was great to read about his publications and other incredible experiences!
My sincere condolences to his family. He has a wonderful legacy!
