My greatest memories of teaching involved Don WHITESIDE. He was my mentor, my cheerleader, my co teacher, and my friend. He could tell if I needed a laugh and five minutes late he completed a funny “shaggy dog” or “pun” joke. I left his room laughing out loud with tears running down my face. Don would counsel and applaud a great day for me and rolled his eyes over his glasses on a boo-boo day. He gave his heart to every student I every class, even the most intolerable monster. He let me teach his thee children: Chris would always have a convoluted question off the wall question five minutes be class would end; Shannon who was the most dedicated student who supported me and hung on every word of learning; and Michelle who was dirt ball to me and the student who actually took over and taught my class even better than I did. Don, the constant husband (he adored Karen), devoted dad, and best grandpa for those beloved grandchildren. I will miss him. The friendship Don freely gave me and so many others was durable and unconditional. He loved the Lord and served him every day in every situation the world threw at him. That spirit will stay with us forever...and we get to be with him soon.
Thank you, Don...JUDY ROE.
