Shirley Mae Baas' Obituary
Shirley Mae Baas, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 89 at her home in Hudson, Florida on August 3, 2023. Born on May 27, 1934, in Euclid, Ohio, she was the daughter of Julius Motz and Frances E. Smith. Her children and grandchildren were her life purpose whom she loved very dearly.
Shirley dedicated over 30 years of her life to serving her community through her work at the Pasco County Health Department. A member of Beacon Baptist Church in Hudson, Shirley's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She found solace and inspiration in the sermons and writings of Billy Graham and Charles Stanley, which served to deepened her faith.
Outside of her work and faith, Shirley had a big heart for animals, especially cats. She lovingly cared for numerous stray cats, at times nurturing as many as 32 of them. Her compassion extended not only to people but also to these furry companions.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Julius Motz and Frances E. Smith; foster parents Carl and Ann Zentner, and Dorthea Geiger, son Emmett C. Smith; daughter Edwina M. Woodworth; and grandchildren Shannon L. Shackson and TaKiesha Ernsberger.
She is survived by sister Loretta Baker; daughters Loretta C. Bull and Arthretta C. Murray (Timothy); sons Fredric E. Ernsberger and Charles Baas II; grandchildren Lindsay L. Koronka, Melissa L. Robinette (Richard), Shirley M. Bull, Fredric Ernsberger Jr., Stephanie R. Polquin, Amanda R. Baas, and several great-grandchildren.
Shirley will be laid to rest at Grace Memorial Gardens.
