Rudy Lawrence Jones' Obituary
Some people leave behind memories. Rudy Lawrence Jones left behind a legacy.
Born on February 22, 1956, in St. Petersburg, Florida, Rudy lived a life defined not by what he had, but by what he gave. Rudy worked for Pasco County as an electrician for 33 years. He was a devoted husband, an extraordinary father, the world’s greatest Poppy, and the kind of man who made everyone around him feel safe simply because he was there.
Rudy is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Dina; his four daughters, Christy, Toni Lynn, Jessica, and Alexa; his sons-in-law, whom he loved like his own, his nieces and nephews; and his seven grandchildren, who were the absolute joy of his life.
To his daughters, he wasn’t just Dad, he was their example. He showed them what unconditional love looked like, what hard work meant, and how to always put family first. They admired his strength, his patience, his generosity, and the quiet way he took care of everyone around him. No matter how old they became, they always knew Dad would be there.
To his grandchildren, he wasn’t just Poppy. He was their hero.
There wasn’t a problem Poppy couldn’t fix, a toy he couldn’t repair, or a question he wouldn’t patiently answer. They looked at him with wonder, wanting to be just like him. He made ordinary days feel special simply by being part of them. Retirement wasn’t something Rudy did for himself—it was something he did for them. He happily stepped into the role of helping raise his grandchildren, never missing the opportunity to love them, teach them, laugh with them, and make memories that will stay with them forever.
If Rudy wasn’t with his family, you could usually find him outside. His hands were rarely still, and somehow they always seemed to leave things—and people—a little better than they found them.
Rudy never needed the spotlight. He showed his love in the everyday moments: by quietly lending a hand, solving a problem before anyone asked, showing up whenever he was needed, and putting everyone else’s needs before his own. Those simple acts became the foundation of his family’s life.
The hole his passing leaves cannot be filled. His laugh, his wisdom, his steady presence, and the comfort of knowing he was only a phone call away will be deeply missed every single day.
But if love could have kept someone here forever, Rudy would have lived a hundred lifetimes.
His family will carry him with them—in every project that gets fixed, every freshly mowed lawn, every lesson passed down, and every grandchild who grows up hoping to be even half the person their Poppy was.
A husband deeply loved. A father deeply admired. A Poppy endlessly adored.
