Words do not do justice for explaining just how special my Momma Rose was to me. She was the best bonus mom a girl could ask for. I always felt so loved by her, and she navigated being a stepmom with grace, patience, and unconditional love. She knew she would never replace my mom, but having her as my Momma Rose, and the relationship we had was so special to me. I will treasure that for the rest of my life. Momma Rose was my extra mom for 3/4 of my life. I cannot imagine how difficult it was to be a sudden parent to 3 kids on the verge of - or in the middle of - puberty. What a nightmare! But somehow she managed to take on that role and prove every fairy tale wrong when it came to stepmoms. I feel truly blessed for the last several years that gave us more time together. I am thankful for the love she extended to my brothers and me. Momma Rose will always be near my heart, and the memories of the last 30 years of my life as her bonus daughter are helping to bring me peace during this time.

Picture one of God’s most beautiful flowers in the garden. That would be Rose. Fun, great sense of humor, loving, caring, forgiving and walking in the footsteps of Jesus. She never lost faith in her battle with the ugly disease that took her from us and delivered her to her Lord and Master. I have faith that we will see you again one day.
She was a terrific wife and friend to my brother Don. I will be forever grateful to her for that alone.
But she did not stop there. She was a great sister-in-law to me and a “sister” to my wife. Despite our geographical differences, we would try to meet up once a year for the “Chicken Foot World Championship Marathon and Showdown”. We would listen to oldies music, talk and play for hours and nights on end until someone fell asleep at the table. We would pick the game up the next night where we left off.
I remember our first cruise with Rose to the Caribbean in 1997. She was crazy paranoid that the ship would sink and she wasn’t a good swimmer. I told her not to worry that the sharks would eat her before she drowned. For some reason she didn’t find that humorous. On that same cruise we talked her into swimming with the hundreds of stingrays in the Grand Cayman Islands. She was terrified, but like a trooper she went for it. She also did not see the humor that when she turned her back to me, I slipped under the water and grabbed her calf. I could hear her blood curdling scream under the water! I can only image what it sounded like above water! She claimed that she almost walked on water that day. That story never got old and we all would laugh and laugh when it came up.
Rose, you are in my heart and in my soul and one day we will all rest together high on that mountain.

Rose is truly a child of our Heavenly Father and now in His presence and the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ rejoicing in His presence. You were a wonderful wife, a great companion for these 30 years. Rest peacefully away from the pain and suffering you endured especially over these last 6 months. Love you forever.
