Rodney "Rod" L. Truog's Obituary
Rod L. Truog, 78, of Spring Hill, FL, passed away November 21st at Sturgill Care Center. Born Dec 15th 1936 in Whitehall, WI. Spent many years throughout Wisconsin as a basketball and golf coach and teacher of history. Moved to Kansas City for a long career in the insurance business and to raise his family. In 1986, he started the Rod Truog Agency with American Family Insurance in which he spent the rest of his career. Rod retired in 2004 ready to golf and travel. He spent many winters in Florida and summers as a volunteer at St. Andrews golf course in Overland Park, KS. Rod and wife, Sheri purchased a home in Spring Hill, FL in 2012, where his middle son and family reside. He got to golf, enjoy the warm weather full time, occasionally sit out on lanai drinking a beer, and of course spend time with his family near and far or friends that come to visit. Rod was of Lutheran faith. They recently transferred from Atonement Lutheran Church in OP, to Holy Cross here in Spring Hill. Rod was an avid Green Bay Packer, Kansas City Royals, and KU Jayhawk (basketball) fan!! He was a shareholder of the Green Bay Packers, which he took pride to say that he was part owner. He loved watching football with his children unless they were rooting against the Packers.
Rod was survived by wife of 53 years, Sheri of Spring Hill, 3 children, Mike (Kathy) of Los Gatos, CA, Ross (Malinda) of Spring Hill, and Laurie (Heath) of Lenexa, KS, and 5 grandchildren Maia, Madilyn, Alex, Nicole, and Morgan. Rod was a great coach, mentor, story teller, and family man. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
