Robert James Spaulding's Obituary
RRobert James Spaulding of Hudson, FL October 1942 – July 2024
Bob who passed away on July 9th 2024, was born in Lackawanna, NY in 1942 to parents Richard and Dorothy Spaulding of Ocala, FL who preceded him in death. Bob met the love of his life, Mary Conti in in Jamestown, NY. They celebrated 53 years of marriage together living in New York, Massachusetts and Florida. He is survived by his wife Mary.
Bob is survived by his children John Spaulding (Jacqueline) of Monterey, CA, Anthony Spaulding (Linda Peters) Sonoma, CA, Kelley Spaulding of Oldsmar, FL. Bob was a proud Grandfather of Dominic Gullo and Addisyn Gullo (son & daughter of Kelley) who he watched grow into wonderful young adults.
Bob is survived by his older sister Jann (Spaulding) Buck of North Umberland, PA and Dale Spaulding and his wife Nancy of Denton, TX.
Bob spent many days with his best friend Toby, the family dog, taking him for his daily rides in the golf cart around the neighborhood. This was the highlight of each of their day.
Bob’s first love, besides Mary, was the game of golf. He enjoyed the challenge and the skill required for the game which always brought him joy on making the perfect shot. When Bob was 67, he made the perfect shot that every golfer dreams of; a hole-in-one at the Heritage Pines Country Club’s 170-yard sixth hole on December 16, 2009. When he wasn’t golfing, he was sailing off the coast of Cape Cod or in the Gulf of Mexico with his family and friends which always brought a smile to his face. If golfing and sailing didn’t keep him busy, his home projects of home additions, remodeling or landscaping kept him active especially when he was retired. Whenever a family member was looking at buying a new vehicle, Bob was always the first person they would speak to. His firsthand experience on this topic was the result of his love of new vehicles that he acquired from his father, Richard.
Bob proudly served as a Firefighter for the City of Jamestown where he worked alongside his fellow firefighters keeping Jamestown safe for 20 years by always answering the call to save more than homes but, to save hearts, memories and dreams. Bob was a successful small business owner in Jamestown owning and operating a restaurant and bar. He served his country in the US Army Reserves from 1962 to 1968.
Bob’s life was a tapestry of life adventures along the East Coast of the United States. Whether it was summers working on Cape Cod at the Chatham Cranberry Inn after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, continuing the golfing legacy of his Father & Grandfather or serving his community as a career first responder. He will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, a loving father who instilled an ethos of hard work into his children to become successful in life and their careers. As a Grandfather, he loved spoiling them because that is what a Grandfather is supposed to do while in retirement living in Florida.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Morton Club, 200 Spring St. Jamestown, NY 14701.
