Richard W. Hunt's Obituary
Richard “Dick” Warren Hunt Sr. passed away peacefully just shy of his 89th birthday at his home in Spring Hill, FL. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joan (Wells) Hunt, brother Raymond Hunt of Asheville, NC, son Richard Hunt Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Temple, ME, son Timothy Hunt and wife Cheryl of Ocala, FL, granddaughter Meaghan Hunt and husband Erik Lantz of Oklahoma City, grandson Ethan Hunt of Memphis and great-granddaughter Lillian Beatrix Lantz. He was predeceased by his parents Warren and Lillian (Osborn) Hunt, as well as his brother, Walter Hunt.
Richard was raised in Bethlehem, CT, and graduated from Watertown High School and the University of Connecticut with a degree in Agriculture. He was the fourth generation to own and operate Elmwood Farm in Bethlehem. In 1963, Richard received the “Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year” award from Outstanding Farmers of America for exemplary agricultural practices. He went on to become Director of Engineering for DeLaval Dairy Systems in Kansas City, MO.
Richard was active in many professional and civic organizations, including the Litchfield County Farm Bureau and Bethlehem Lions Club, as well as the Bethlehem Board of Assessors. He was president of the Litchfield County 4-H and served on the Bethlehem School Board for nine years, serving four as its chairman. He was instrumental in forming the Region 14 School District between Bethlehem and Woodbury.
Richard loved sports and was an avid golfer for many years, a dedicated fan of his beloved UConn Huskies, and an avid bridge player. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout their life together.
Services will be held at Grace Memorial Gardens in Hudson, FL, on September 20th at 10 am. A private burial will follow at the Bethlehem Cemetery in Connecticut later this year.
