Philip Nyer's Obituary
Philip Nyer (Ni-er), 90, passed away on December 25, 2025, at the Dr. Jay Weil Center for Hospice Care in New Port Richey, Florida. He was a devoted husband to Lois Ina Schaffer for 39 years before her passing in 1996. He was lucky enough to find his second love with Judith Jelley Stearns, who he shared a married life with for the last 11 years.
Born May 31, 1935 in Manhattan, New York, Philip was the son of the late Isidore Nyer and Bertha Nyer (née Pomerantz). After graduating high school, he proudly served in the United States Army for two years, fighting in the Korean War. Following his military service, Philip worked as a machinist for Acme Parts for over 20 years before retiring.
In July 1981, he moved from Staten Island, New York, to Holiday, Florida, where he enjoyed a fulfilling life. Philip loved to travel and dance, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and his beloved cat, Dennis. He will be remembered as a funny, loving family man who was deeply devoted to those he cherished.
Philip is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Stearns; his two daughters, Holly Nyer (Patricia) and Robin Fish (Scott); his grandson, Landon Nathaniel Fish; and his furbaby, Dennis. He was predeceased by his brothers, Sol Nyear and Nathan Nyer.
A private burial will take place at Wellwood Cemetery in West Babylon, New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gulfside Hospice or ASPCA.
