Orby Lee Hurless' Obituary
Orby Lee Hurless Jr, 92 passed away Friday January 25, 2019 at Heritage Pointe of Fort Wayne. He was born in Rockford, Ohio to Orby Lee and Ireda Fae Hurless Sr. Orby graduated from Rockford High School in 1944. He served his country honorably with the United States Navy during WWII. On Decmeber 24, 1948, he married Lucille Owens at Emmanual Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. He worked at an auto mechanic for Amaco Oil for several years before retiring. Orby was a member of American Legion Post #508 in Rockford, OH, the United States LST Association, and Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Orby was very athletic and was team captain for his high school basketball and football teams. He enjoyed fishing and shooting pool, where he earned his name as “The Rifle Man,” for shooting so hard. He is survived by his children, Orby Lee III (Lisa) Hurless, Pamela (Ricky) Carmickle, Deborah (Stan Kruse) Percy, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Geraldine Akom. Orby was preceded in death by his wife Lucille Dolores Hurless, parents, and siblings; Isabel Steele, William Hurless, and sister, Eloise Hurless. Burial in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell FL at a later date. Memorials may be made to Rockford American Legion Post # 508 or the United States LST Association.
