Mavis Melhado's Obituary
Ms. Mavis Melhado passed away in the early evening of January 2, 2018 peacefully in her sleep at the age of 94. Mavis is predeceased by her parents Itahalin Oliver – Mother & Zephaniah Leachman- Father - Mavis was the first of 10 children. She is survived by her brothers Gauntlet and Leslie Leachman, sisters Pearly Murray, Sarah Young, and Albertine James, her son Andrew Melhado, her grandchildren Ryan Melhado, Justin Melhado, and Charnae Reid, also great grandchildren Adonis & Hanson Reid, and countless nieces nephews and cousins throughout the U.S, Jamaica, Canada, England and other parts of the world.
Mavis was married twice, first to Vincent Oliver where she spent years living in England until his untimely death. Mavis then married Gerald Melhado returning to her home country of Jamaica residing in the District of Glade where she spent her time as a shop keeper, house wife and “aunt” to family and community members alike. Mavis adopted and raised Pamela “vinny” Ferguson and Jean Ballantine before relocating to the United States. Before a peaceful retirement she worked as a home aide to Ms. Mcmahon and later as an aide at Flower Fifth Memorial Hospital in New York City.
