Mary Genga's Obituary
Mary J. (Di Gioia) Genga, 99, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Mary grew up in Philadelphia, PA, and remained there after her marriage to Rick Genga, also of Philadelphia. They raised their son in Ridley Park, PA. Mary was employed by an aircraft manufacturer in Philadelphia and by also worked for an insurance company.
After her husband’s retirement, they moved to Florida. She worked in real estate there for a number of years. A member of St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, she was involved in the women’s activities there. In other community areas, she also served as a Hospice volunteer. Mary and Rick’s love of opera led to them to become members of a newly formed opera society. They were great enthusiasts of the opera and had a large collection of music.
Mary loved her family and enjoyed large family gatherings. She was an outstanding cook and hostess, with an open door for friends and family. Her love of cooking was well known, and she compiled a two-volume family cook book, complete with photos and notes. She will be remembered for her generous and fun-loving nature and her enthusiastic love of life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rick, a World War ll veteran, and son, Richard, a former Green Beret Marine, as well as her five siblings. A special thanks is extended to the staff at The Villas at Lakeside Oaks and the Lakeside Oaks Care Center for their care for in recent years.
