Mariana Steele, 33 of Spring Hill, FL passed away November 29, 2016 after a long courageous battle with cancer. A native of Romania born to Ioan and Cornelia (Rotaru) Zmau and was raised Christian Orthodox. She came to the area in Read Obituary
I visited Mariana in hospital in Udine, Italy, just after the diagnosis had been made many years ago: the outlook looked grim already, and it seemed the end was near. In the years before she left for the USA I was a witness to her never failing courage and cheerfullness. As a doctor I could understand what she was going through, and shared with her the joy of winning the first battles against the disease and the joy of finding Rob's love which gave her strength. Battle after battle in the end her body had to surrender, but I know that her spirit did not and until the very end she was capable of comforting others. I and the others who knew her in Italy cherish her memory, and I am sure that she is now smiling on us all and especially on Rob from paradise.

In the words of Mari "We are killers, that ride, the cuties under the masks." She always laughed and made jokes with me. We could turn any dull moment into something great. That's what I loved most about her, we laughed at the stupid things, the happy things, and even the dark things. Life was beautiful with her and her memory lives on always.

Everyday with Mari was memorable because that's just how she was, the way she looked at things from a completely different viewpoint than everybody else. Being blessed to be able to walk her down the isle and give her away to Rob at her wedding. You could not be within the sound of her laughing and not start laughing no matter what your mood was at the time. Her spirit and her outlook on life was truly inspirational and as beautiful as she is in all these photos that you see here. Having to watch movies and tv with the subtitles on for the Romanian impaired, and that is not an insult by any means. But one of the memorable things about my Princess is her scrappy no quit attitude when it came to her cancer. She was very smart when it came to treatment and medicine issues. She would question the doctors and stick right with them when she was trying to make her views known. She and Rob both would not have anything to do with any negative ideas or late stage ideas. But with a lot of the doctors that's one of the main topics they would bring up before treating her. We were in one of the hospitals waiting for her procedure to put in the last stint she put in. Rob was taking momma back to Miami so she could fly back home to Italy. When in came this doctor that stopped her procedure to speak with her about it. And he starts talking about Hospice care and what we need to think about in the near future. She looked at me with one of her looks and I thought oh you really didn't just go there did you. Well this guy starts talking about a pirate ship and walking the plank with hungry sharks on one side and I forget what was on the other. Trying to make reference to her illness and making choices that neither was very good. Well after a second of are you kidding me, she gave me another one of those Mari looks. And at the same time like it was rehearsed or something we both said to him we were going to go back and kick the pirates arssses and take over the ship. That's just the way she looked at life and things she was passionate about. Unfortunately for us the world is a little less brighter at the moment, and we need all the light we can get now more than ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
