Unpretentious, compassionate and generous, my sister Maria led her life caring for others.
We were born in the years immediately preceding the war in Europe which cost our father his life and left mom alone to provide for her five children. Maria was the middle child, but that didn’t deter her from stepping up and taking charge of the household responsibilities without hesitation and with determination while still in her adolescent years.
While some of us attended school away from home, she unselfishly dedicated herself to care for the rest of the family by ensuring there would always be a hot meal and a tidy and welcoming environment at home.
Later on in life, our paths inevitably diverged as we dealt with our own family obligations and distance regrettably prevented us from sharing a greater part of our daily lives.
Maria will always be my good little sister and forever hold a place in my heart.
Good-bye my dearest sister. Rest in peace in God's embrace.
Arrivederci a presto!
Love, Fides
