Margaret De Vries-Ten Hoeve's Obituary
At home with the Lord, Margaret De Vries-Ten Hoeve, 97, of Hudson, Florida passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Heather Hill Nursing Home, New Port Richey, FL. She was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on September 17, 1916 to Louis and Edna Gearhart, and raised in Paterson, NJ by her Uncle Burt and Aunt Margaret Gearhart after her father passed away at an early age and her mother worked as a live-in housekeeper for others in a rural area nearby.As a young adult, Margaret and her husband Henry De Vries, were part of a Christian Gospel group that preached the Word of God at street meetings and in Rescue Missions several times each month, and continued that ministry for several years. Following the death of her husband in 1979, Margaret enjoyed working with physically handicapped and mentally challenged children in Totowa, New Jersey for several years.Margaret moved to Hampton, Virginia with her daughter Ruth Brown, and son-in-law, Bob, where she volunteered with the Foster Grand-parent Program in a local Baptist Church for six years.In 1992 they moved to Port Richey, and then Hudson, Florida where Margaret quickly made friends while attending Gulfview Grace Brethren Church.In 1995, another member of the original Christian Gospel group from years ago, John C. Ten Hoeve, a pastor, and now a widower, contacted Margaret and visited her, and they were married, and became active in the Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Hudson, Florida until his death two years later. After his death, Margaret returned to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Bob Brown, and began attending the Brethren Church once again. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Margaret is survived by her daughter Ruth Brown (Bob) in Hudson; and son Henry De Vries, Jr. (Carol) of New Jersey; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
