Leonard J. Zalac's Obituary
Leonard Joseph "Jim" Zalac age 73 of Springhill, FL. passed away July 17, 2010 at Kindred Hospital in Tampa, FL. Born in McKeesport, PA. Sept. 1936 and came to Tampa in 1955. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 - 1957, stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL. and North Africa. He joined the Tampa Police Dept. in Jan. 1959 and worked in the Patrol and Traffic Divisions as a Patrolman and Motorcycle Office and accident investigator. He was promoted and assigned to the Larceny Bureau as an auto theft / larceny detective until retirement. He then joined the Pasco County Sheriffs Office in 1996 as a civilian desk officer and shortly thereafter was assigned as the Judicial Affairs Coordinator between the Pasco Sheriffs Office and the Pasco County States Attorney Office until retirement in 2003. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Tampa Lodge #27 serving in every office including president. Elected to the Board of Directors of the Florida State Lodge F.O.P. and as State Secretary. He also served on various committees with the National Lodge F.O.P. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0186 in Springhill, FL.He was predeceased by his Parents Joseph and Mildred Zalac and a sister Dolores Lindsey.Survivors include, his wife Ruth, three daughters, Jessila Dickinson and her husband Dick of Tampa, FL., MaraLisa DeGroot and her husband Jerry of Wesley Chapel, FL.,and Tricia Lynn Cormier and her husband Michael of Springhill, FL.. A sister Rose Rodgers of McKeesport, PA., eight grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Visitation will be Thursday July 22, 2010 at Grace Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.. A funeral service will be Friday July 23, 2010 at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. at 12:30 p.m.
