Leonard M. Salie's Obituary
Leonard M. Salie was born on 10 November 1918 at Edgerton, MN. He passed away at the age of 93 on 22 December 2011 at Brooksville, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Teunis P. Salie, of Edgerton, Mn; his mother, Lorrena VerSteeg Salie Veenhof, of Edgerton, Mn; his wife of 68 years, Klaasena; one daughter, Patricia Aucoin; two grandsons, Troy Salie and David Salie. He is survived by three children, Joan Cotter of Springhill, Fla, Teunis Salie of Lakeport, Ca, and James Salie, wife Peggy, of Box Springs, GA. He is also survived by two sisters: Jane DeGroot of West Sacramento, Ca, and Leona Kreun of West Sacramento, Ca. two brothers: Harris Salie, wife Harriet, of Bellflower, Ca. and Nick Veenhof, wife Rose, of Edgerton, Mn.Mr. Salie retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of military service. His tours of duty included combat tours in Okinawa, Japan, and Korea; Military Prison, Ft. Levenworth, Ks. and other tours throughout the United States, Japan, and Germany. He retired from Civil Service, Ft. Benning, Ga after another 16 years.He left behind, 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.Memorial services will be conducted at 3pm on 28 January 2012 at the Grace Memorial Chapel, Hudson, FL. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sturgill Hospice Care Center, 12242 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, FL 34613.
