I had the distinction of working for Larry longer than anyone else. Yes he told me that one day. No that fact didn't result in a bump in my pay check or any special benefits but he always had my back when and if necessary. He was quite a guy. He was round pencils only, rum and cokes (now my drink of choice) and a porta-potty in his front yard at Karen Acres for a birthday celebration. Yes a Karen Acres neighbor expressed some disapproval but Larry said so what?....”here today .. gone tomorrow”. July of 1993 Larry called me and said can you be out here (Camp Dodge) tomorrow? I said “yes sir”, the guard was gearing up to fight the Great Flood of 1993. He then said “you can ride RAGBRAI, I can't”. RIP Larry, thanks for those memories.
