Karin Hellman's Obituary
Karin Ursula Hellmann, 80, of Tarpon Springs Florida, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025. Born in Schneidemühl, Germany, on November 14, 1944, then raised in Dortmund. Karin had an adventurous spirit. She migrated to New York City when she was 18. Karin met her husband at the German Soccer club in the Ridgewood area of Queens, New York City. Karin had three children, which eventually raised on her own. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a respected member of the New York City Police Department for over 20 years.
Karin was known for her resilience and dedication throughout her career, serving as a Traffic Inspector with the NYPD, where she earned the admiration of her colleagues and made a lasting impact on the department. After retiring, she continued to contribute to her community, becoming President for many years of the German-American club of New Port Richey, always putting others first and offering guidance to those in need.
Karin’s greatest pride, however, was her family. She was a loving mother to her three sons and daughter in laws, Werner and Kim, Brian and Lea, a cherished grandmother to three grandchildren: Noelle, Gabby, Jackson. Her legacy lives on through them, as well as in the countless lives she touched with her kindness, wit, and wisdom.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and many dear friends who will miss her deeply.
A private family service will be held to honor her life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV).
May she rest in peace.
