Bill Mcconnell
Dear Mrs. Kucsma, While reading the latest issue of the Bluffton College alumni magazine i was saddened to see that Paul had died. Paul and i were classmates for four years and graduated together in 1966 with our degrees. I remember Paul as a great guy who was very trustworthy and also pretty ornery. I have a story about us that i'm not sure he ever shared with you from our college days. Paul and i were both on the baseball team together and we decided that right field of our baseball field was too short in distance and was giving too many cheap ground rule doubles. the reason for the short distance was that there were several big oak trees in the way of expanding the distance in right field. One night we decided the trees had to go so we found a two-man saw at the maintenance building and went out in the wee hours and took about three hours to cut them down.Sounded like bombs going off when they hit the ground.Obviously it caused a lot of anger with the administration and everyone had to sit through many chapel talks on conservation. I found out later that the trees had been dedicated to someone many years previous. I still find it hard to believe we got through four years of college without being found out because they were sure looking for the guilty people. We were only freshmen at the time. That is why i described Paul as trustworthy because we told no-one during those four years.Hope you did not find this story too boring . My deepest condolences to you and your family. PAUL WAS A GREAT GUY! Sincerely, Bill McConnell , Wooster, Ohio
