I first met Joanie in Labor and Delivery when I came to the States in September 1969. She reminded me of the strict old time “Sisters” in England who I wanted to get away from. Now I meet another “Ogre” as she came to be known. Always negative when the Drs would ask for new equipment but eventually she came around.
Over the years she became my dearest friend, my confidant and my traveling companion. She loved television and would keep it on all night if she could. I soon put a stop to that and at 11 pm I turned it off.
Joan loved nature, birds, animals, flowers and made frequent trips to the Botanical Gardens and the Bronx Zoo, always with camera in hand. She loved Craft shows and we always came home with paintings to adorn our apartments. I miss those days.
Joan always wanted a Bridal Shower. She had been to so many and never a bride. For her 50th Birthday I along with her many friends and Drs gave her just that. A friend of mine agreed to be the groom and wear a placard “Rent a Groom”. Fun loving Joan took it all in her stride and enjoyed all the bridal gifts. We roasted Joan royally.
My love and deepest sympathy to all the family. Ricky, Laura and Lisa I remember fondly.
With love always Joanie. Always in my thoughts.
Your dear friend Lizzie.
