James M Shaw's Obituary
James M Shaw passed away at the age of 78. The youngest child of Emma and Frank Shaw of Detroit, James had three sisters (Elizabeth, Sharon, and Patricia) and an older brother, Frank. In 1970, James married his treasured wife, Julia, with a loving and powerful bond that lasted sixty-one years. Their two wonderful children, James and Stephanie, also moved to Florida, and Julie and Jim were so proud of how both children change the world while they love their own families. Later in life Jim loved the miracle and magic of grandchildren, and Claudia, Dean, and Caspian were special wonders in his life. He enjoyed every visit, every phone call and video, and cherished precious conversations. James’s wife, Aida, and Stephanie’s husband, Johnathan, were extra bonuses, but the big smiles from Grandpa Jim were created by the children.
Jim enjoyed being an English teacher and counselor for 30 years at Davis, Malow, and Jeannette Jr. Highs in The Utica Community Schools. Beginning in the late 70’s, Jim was selected to teach gifted children at both Malow and Jeannette, but it was an honor and challenge to work with every kind of student every day. Just before and after retirement, James published three novels and became a feature writer for the Deerfield Observer in Florida.
In a very full life, James Shaw cherished his family, teaching and counseling, writing, sports of all kinds, and caring for people one person at a time.
