SIGURDSSON, Grace L.
91, of Hudson died peacefully on Friday April 28, 2023. Grace Leona (Wohlitka) Sigurdsson was born in Long Island City, NY on March 10, 1932. She married Halldor (Hal) Sigurdsson on August 31, 1952. They settled in Queens and raised three children. Grace worked at Petro Oil Company and Hal was a vice-president of Kinny National Cleaning Contractors. They retired in 1992 and moved to Port Richey. Grace and Hal enjoyed traveling, including trips to Florida where her parents lived, and to Iceland, Hal’s native country. For many summers, they vacationed in Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks. Their door was always open to their many close friends and family, including Hal’s Icelandic relatives when visiting the US. "Amazing" Grace was the matriarch of the family. She had a strong faith in God. Grace always had a smile on her face, and loved to laugh and make others laugh. She enjoyed playing cards and Mahjong, and volunteered at a local nursing home. Grace was predeceased by her parents Herman and Ellen Mary Wohlitka, husband Halldor, son Jimmy, daughter Leona, granddaughter Ellen Mary, brother Herman J. Wohlitka, and sister Eileen Rowan. She is survived by her son Halldor Kevin (Frances) Sigurdsson, grandchildren Christopher (Paula) Lawrence, Gordon (Aubrey) Lawrence, Kristina Sigurdsson, Joanna (Alan) Shoup, and Thomas (Jaz) Sigurdsson, great-grandchildren Alyriana, Skye Lynn, Jareth, Rowan, Forrest, and Finn, son-in-law Gordon (Kip) Lawrence, and cousins Patricia Wright (Ray) and Susan Dempsey. She was a beloved “Auntie” to Eileen’s children: Eileen Rowan, Coreen (Gary) Kondrat, Robert Rowan, Patricia Rowan, Michael (Melissa) Rowan, Theresa (Donald) Sitcer, and Dawn Rowan, and several great- nieces and nephews. Grace Memorial Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at St Michael the Archangel in Hudson, with burial at a later date at Mount St. Mary Cemetery in Flushing.
