Gary A. Dewey's Obituary
Gary A. Dewey, 68, formerly of Chemung, IL passed unexpectedly Friday, June 12, 2015 in Brooksville, FL.
He was born on Sept. 7, 1946 to Willard and Mora (Burton) Dewey and a 1965 graduate of Harvard High School.
He proudly served our country in the Navy for 4 years active duty and 2 years reserve duty as a DC2 rate on the U.S.S. Holland.
On May 9, 1970 he married Kathryn “Kathy” Seelye. They celebrated 25 years of marriage prior to her death on Dec. 30, 1995. He is survived by his daughters Angela “Angie” Hartmann and Amy (Jason) Golnik. Grandchildren Cole and Jordan Hartmann; Kade, Delaney and Leah Golnik; close Cuz Gerald “Gerry” (Julie) Zell.
In 1999 he married Terry Brady and retired to Brooksville, FL. He is further survived by his stepchildren Wendy (Mike) Dufek, Steven (Cindy) Sodt, Dan (Kate) Crooker and their children
He is preceded in death by his parents, wives and many close family and friends.
Gary retired from Chrysler Corp. in Belvidere, IL after 30 dedicated years. He was a member and/or volunteer to many organizations and causes during his life. Some include the UAW, American Legion Post 186 and Boys State, Harvard Moose Lodge 1289, Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish and School, The High Pointe Community Board and numerous others
A service will be held at the American Legion Post 186 on Saturday, June 20th at 3pm in Brooksville, FL. Funeral services for Gary will be at Saunders and McFarlin Funeral Home on Saturday, July 18th. Visitation will be from 10am – noon. Memorial service will begin at the funeral home at noon with burial at Dunham-Chemung Cemetery and a luncheon at Harvard Moose Lodge to follow.
