Garnet Lee Davis' Obituary
Garnet Lee Davis of Hudson, Fl passed away on April 30, 2023 at Bayonet Point Hospital.
Garnet was born on March 8, 1941 in Rogersville, Tennessee. He went to Rogersville High School then served in the US Army. During this time, Garnet served in Korea for two years before returning to Fort Jackson, SC as an aid to a general.
After being honorably discharged from the military in 1963, he attended classes at IUPUI, worked for Continental Baking Companies for eight years, and become the owner of three restaurants in southern Indiana. In addition to all of this, Garnet was a sales manager for Larry Bird Ford in Martinsville, IN. He was active in local city government serving on the city planning commission. Garnet was the owner of Davis Paint & Quarter Horse Farm winning many awards with his show horses. He was also an active member of the Southern Indiana Paint Horse Association where he was known for providing delicious food he and his son made.
Garnet was recognized throughout the Martinsville community as a little league baseball coach. He was notorious for helping the weakest kids on the team develop into confident, integral players. His coaching talent was sought after by many and his love of the sport created a bond with his boys - some of which carried on his legacy by coaching years later.
Everywhere he went, people would go out of their way to say hello and express gratitude for the way Garnet had shaped their lives.
Garnet accomplished his goal to solo fly and even took his boys on a solo flight.
Garnet is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Sexton Davis. They had three sons Rick, Shane, and John. Son Rick and his wife Nancy McMurray Davis of Indianapolis with three of Garnet’s grandchildren - Jennifer and Laura of Tampa, Fl and George of Indianapolis, IN. Son G Shane Davis of Greenville, Tx and Hudson, Fl with Garnet’s grandchildren - Coleton (Karlea), Bryson, Shaylee, and Delaney all of Texas as well as Kiljong Lee (Eric) of Hawaii. Son John P Davis of Weeki Wachee, Fl.
He is survived by one sister, Sandy Davis, of Rogersville, TN and by many loving nieces and nephews that were like his own children. They all enjoyed many adventures and family get together over the years.
Garnet was preceded in death by his father John Orville Davis and his mother Margaret Webb Davis as well as his siblings - brothers Jimmy Davis and Jerry Davis, sister Debbie Davis Poston.
A memorial service for Garnet will be held on Friday, May 5th, 2023 at 5:00 PM at Grace Memorial Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to come pay their respects and express their condolences to the family.
