Fred H. Buehrmann, 93, of Hudson, Florida passed away at 8:09 pm Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Solaris Nursing Home in Hudson, Florida.
He was born on May 8, 1929, in Irvington, New Jersey, the son of the late Friedrich Buehrmann and Anna Illmann Buehrmann.
Fred served his country toward the end of WWII in the US Army (1946-1948), and prior to his official graduation from Irvington High School in Irvington, New Jersey. His duty assignment was in Korea with the 7th Infantry Division. Following military service, he attended Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey earning his BS in Business Management. He was employed by Federal Electric Corp. at Point Barrow, Alaska. There he supported the installation of the Defense Early Warning System (DEW Line) in the Arctic Circle where he managed supply operations at a remote airport and later accepted assignments in Frankfurt, Germany. He joined Westinghouse in 1966 as a Buyer in Steam Turbine Division in Lester, PA and retired as a Purchasing Manager from Westinghouse-Orlando Florida with a combined service of more than 25 years.
Fred had a passion for music. He began accordion lessons at an early age and in later life learned to play organ. Much time was devoted to following organ artists and provided a reason for travel to many different states to attend organ concerts or to enjoy inaugural performances of new organ installations. He was a long-time member of the American Theater Organ Society (ATOS).
He wasn't limited to enjoying or making music. He loved to dance especially polkas as well as participate in all the fun activities associated with the Central FL German American Club. Many lasting friendships were formed as a result of his musical interests.
He also loved traveling; by land, air, or sea. He managed to visit countries in 5 of the 7 continents either for business or family pleasure. It was adventurous living and working in the Arctic and living among the Eskimos, encountering bear and caribou. These adventures made great stories for his sons, and later his grandchildren. It was challenging, as a newly wed living in Germany and working, shopping, living on the German economy.
Fred is survived by his loving wife: Paula Weien Buehrmann; sons: Kurt Buehrmann and Erik (Tammy) Buehrmann, all of Orlando, Florida; sister Marion Geiger of Allison Park, PA., Grandsons: Grant Buehrmann and Reid Buehrmann, Nieces: Heidi (Patrick) Romano and Elise Walkington and Grand Nieces: Loren Suttmiller, and Kevi Walkington.
