Ellen McCormack's Obituary
Ellen McCormack, 86, of Hudson, Florida passed away Sunday, August 31st at the Angels Senior Living memory care facility in Land O’ Lakes. She was born October 6, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of the late Merrick and Edna Shawe. Ellen graduated from the University of Maryland with a history degree and worked at the National Security Agency. This is where she met her husband John McCormack and they made a home together in Bowie, Maryland. Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family & friends, reading and shopping. She took a long career break to raise three boys, shuttling them to a variety of sporting events as a very supportive mom, before eventually returning to the NSA until retirement. She was active in the local women’s & investing clubs, playing bridge and enjoyed long walks with John and their dachshund Rudi.
In retirement Ellen & John enjoyed making many new friends in Florida and taking trips to Europe and Asia, while also helping care for their local grandchildren. She was a devoted parishioner and volunteer at Hudson First United Methodist church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by John, her loving husband of 50 years, her sister Jean Williams Dishong and brother Merrick Edwin Shawe.
Ellen is survived by her three sons: Todd (& Katie) McCormack, Stephen McCormack and Andrew (& Kristen) McCormack and her grandchildren: Samuel McCormack, Benjamin McCormack, Logan McCormack, Amelia McCormack, Kyle McCormack, Alina McCormack and Wyatt McCormack.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Grace Memorial Funeral Home, 16931 US Hwy 19 North, Hudson, FL 34667. Please feel free to donate to the Alzheimers Association in memory of Ellen & John McCormack.
