Mr. Ed Saas was my instructor for Carpentry Construction at Wilson A. Technological School in Dix Hills, NY. He was most knowledgeable of his trade and was a great teacher. He was mostly all business because he took his profession most seriously and did not negotiate the integrity of any project or the safety of his students. But, He was also very fair and good man. He favored the guys that did the right thing in his class and didn't miss an opportunity to compliment them when they did good work. His phrase was, "Man, you're good!" These statements made a high school kid feel on top of the world and made you want to excel even more for him. What a concept! He was so sharp and knew how to pull the best talent from you if you wanted to apply yourself. I even tracked him down in Florida 20 years after I graduated to say hello and to thank him for such a great experience. I still have my binder from his class because he made sure you kept a clean and tidy book that was checked regularly. It was a pleasure to have been graced with his presence and I'm thankful to have been taught by a man who had such great talent both personally and professionally. I know for a fact that there are a lot of great carpenters out there because they were lucky enough to have had him as a teacher.
I would like to extend my most sincere condolences to the Saas family and to also remind them that they come from great stock!
May Mr. Edward Saas rest in peace and may his family know that the world is a better place because of everything he passed on to his many students both personally and professionally.
A thankful student.
