Duane L. Geiger's Obituary
Duane L. Geiger, 87, of Spring Hill, Florida passed away June 1, 2015. He was born in Columbiana County, Ohio to Lawrence and Grace (Elser) Geiger on October 1, 1927. During his lifetime he lived in West Mayfield and Chippewa, Pennsylvania and Sugar Mill Woods in Homosassa, Florida. He spent his last years at the Residence at Timber Pines in Spring Hill, Florida. He was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Geiger served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sargent from 1946 to 1951, and assisted in the Berlin Air Lift. He worked for more than 40 years at Babcock & Wilcox Company in Beaver Falls, Pa. as a Nondestructive Testing Supervisor. After retiring to Florida Duane became an avid golfer, walking 18 holes almost every day, making him a fierce competitor on the men’s traveling league at Sugar Mill Woods.
He was preceded in death last year by his loving wife of 63 years, Norma Lee Geiger, and his daughter Janice. Survivors include his daughters Deborah Welker and husband Donald; Penelope Ann Powell and husband Edward; brother in-law Clifford Teets; sister in-law Shirley Carbeau and husband Bernard; grandchildren Adriane Reynolds and husband Marc; Alexander King and wife Myriam; Lucas Duane Powell and Erica Jane Powell; great-grandchildren Matthew Benjamin King; Fiona Grace and Elijah Christopher Reynolds.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Timber Pines on Saturday June 6, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Interment services will be held Friday June 12, 2015 11:30AM at Florida National Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force and Sumter County Honor Guard.
