Diane Cummings was my stepmom. I am not happy that I was not notified of her illness or passing; I just found out yesterday, 11/17/22, that she had passed away in August.
I had tried repeatedly to call her in late summer.
Diane was always kind to me. It was the 2nd marriage for both her and my father, Leverne Cummings. I am grateful that they made each other happy.
My Dad and stepmom Diane moved to Heritage Pines in FL (after he retired in the late 1990s from Fisher Body).
They sadly didn't get to enjoy much of his retirement together as he passed in 2000.
I will miss Diane's kindness and thoughtfulness.
We always talked on holidays and birthdays, and reminisced about my Dad. I sent her flowers every Mother's Day; she loved that.
She made a needle point tapestry for me one Christmas, with a Native American proverb outlined in embroidery thread. She told me she took it literally everywhere with her for months to get it completed by Christmas.
It is one of most treasured possessions, not only because of the effort she put into it, but the fact that she picked something that spoke to my Native American heritage and also my spiritual views.
The last 20 years after my dad passed were hard on Diane. I hope she is at peace, reunited with my Dad, her son David, and her mom whom she missed dearly.
Godspeed Mom.
