I was 4 years old when Dennis was born. We had one other sibling, Peter who was 2 1/2. We lived with our parents in a one bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. Dennis, being the youngest, was Mom and Dad’s favorite. At least that’s what Peter and I thought. Dennis always kept up with his older brothers, whether it was baseball, stickball, punchball, bike riding and so forth. Peter and I were choir boys but Dennis was an altar boy…….we were jealous of all the tips Dennis received from serving at weddings and funerals. Choir boys got nothing. Dennis was an entrepreneur at an early age.
Dennis suffered the loss of his father when he was 13, He graduated from St. Teresa of Avila Elementary School and attended St. Leonards High School in Brooklyn in the fall of 1961. He later worked in Wall Street where he met Tula. Dennis and Tula had a double wedding with Fran and Bill after which they all moved to Spring Hill. My late wife, Peggy and I spent a week with Tula and Dennis in Spring Hill in January 1969….. they were on their honeymoon at the time. My mother, Peggy, Julia and I always looked forward to visiting Dennis and his family over the years. At times they visited New York with Lisa and Joann and later, Alyssa. And more recently Olivia and Jack met and loved their grand uncle Dennis.
Dennis was wise, industrious, kind, and caring. He loved family and children and was always a great hosts. I will miss my baby brother and fondly remembered him until we meet again.
