This was not my first time meeting him but I definitely thought of him playing Brown Eye Girl at his Daughter, Jessica's wedding. I was amazed at the talent and enjoyment he got from playing music.
Nonas 90th at Topsail Island was the first time I got to spend an extended amount of time with David. He was an interesting man that ran and brought his own food to the dinner table. I wish I sat down with him more during this time.
It wasn't until a couple years later that him and I visited and I got to meet the family man that I knew from that point forward. His first time playing cornhole was great and his intelligence wanted to understand the scoring and he had his hat turned backwards, like the pictures below, the whole time. Those pictures are from Nonas memorial service. Another experience to see his love for family and especially his wife Rita. In her time of pain, he stood right by her side and helped her during this emotional celebration of life!
The common theme in every event and every interaction that I can remember with Uncle David, was music. Performing, listening, and more importantly seeing him support Rita, Eric, and Pete through the music was an honor.
You will truly be missed Dave. You were loving husband and father and a great brother-in-law to me. I will miss the music that you and Rita used to play together. You always made me smile when you were playing together and then I think back when you guys first met and it was all about music, you guys had a great life together! Have a wonderful, wonderful family and a lot of great friends. I will miss you Dave it won’t be the same. It never is but no you’ll be in my thoughts and prayers for as long as I can still pray enjoy heaven, Dave, you deserve it , rest in peace.
