Charlton W. Wallace's Obituary
Charlton Wesley Wallace, affectionately known as "Sonny" - beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother - passed away on May 29, 2026, at the age of 83 in Hudson, Florida, after a courageous battle with dementia. He was born on September 17,1942 in Montego Bay, Jamaica to Isaac and Ivy Wallace.
Charlton attended Montego Bay High School and learned the tailoring trade from his father in his early years. He also worked for the Postmaster General in Montego Bay. A keen sportsman, he played cricket and was an avid water skier. His favorite pastime was watching various sporting events.
In the late 1960s, Charlton moved to New York and began his immigrant journey to build a better life for his family. His first job in America was in retail, as manager of Miles Shoes store. He later moved to Connecticut to work for United Parcel Service before returning to New York in the early 1980s, where he founded his own courier service. That business sustained him for more than four decades across New York and Florida, until he retired at the onset of the pandemic.
Charlton remained devoted to his homeland, visiting as often as he could and instilling its culture in his family.
He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Grace Wallace, his children, Caroline Jackson, Annette Charles, and John Wallace; his stepdaughter Tracey Martin; his sons-in-law, David Jackson and Conroy Charles; and his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Wallace. He also leaves eight grandchildren - Tricia Kumm, Christopher Johnson, Sydney Jackson, Evan Charles, Camryn Wallace, Andrew Wallace, and step-grandsons Jamal Martin and Christopher Jones his grandson-in- law, Greg Kumm; his great-grandson, Mason Kumm; his siblings Patricia, Lloyd, Athena, Wren, Dalton, Winsome, Phillip, Ian, and Sharnette Wallace and more than twenty nieces and nephews.
Charlton was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nella, his brother Keith, and a sibling who died at birth whose name is unknown.
A service will be held on June 20, 2026 at Grace Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 16931 US Highway 19 North, Hudson, FL 34467. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.
