Charles VanHorn's Obituary
Charles William Van Horn, 80, of Spring Hill Florida went to be with our Lord on July 23, 2021. A native of Fairmount, W.VA. Charles served and retired from the United States Navy after 30 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer. : During "Chucks" tenure in the Navy he was on land for 5 years stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois at the Military Base to instruct new recruits on how to become Sailors. He commanded many companies and met young men and women who wanted to serve our country. After his retirement from the Navy, Charles moved to the Brooksville Area and worked for 20 years at the South West Florida Water Management District and retired as the Fleet Manager. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Saint Frances Cabrini in Spring Hill, Florida. His memberships include the Retired Chief Petty Officers Association, he was a 2nd degree with the Loyal Order of the Moose Spring Hill # 521, and Past President of the Moose Legion, he was a life member of VFW post #9236, American Legion #186, and West Citrus BPOE “Elks” . Chuck also enjoyed traveling with Ann Marie and their 2 pups in their RV visiting friends and family and touring the USA. He loved to sing Karaoke and dance. Chuck never met a stranger, he would talk to anyone he came in contact with about anything and everything especially if they had a military hat or shirt on and always thanked them for their service to our country. Charles was preceded in death by his two brothers Carl Jr. and James Leon, 2 sisters Karen Sue and Wanda Lee; one grandchild Chelsea Bushell.
Survivors include his loving wife of 14 years, Ann Marie; 2 daughters, Beverly J. Bushell & husband, Patrick D. and Belinda J. Vanhorn; 1 brother, Robert Vanhorn; 1 sister, Patty Edwards; several Nieces and Nephews; 4 grandchildren Jacob Bushell and Seth Bushell, Eric Pillsbury and Brandon McLeod; 2 stepsons H. Jackson Stinson, III and his wife Marti and James D. Stinson; 2 stepdaughters Kathleen M. Stinson and Meshell Barna; 2 step grandchildren Christian James and Jeremiah Stinson.
A Burial with Military Honors for Charles will be held on Wednesday August 11, 2021 at 10am at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 S.W. 102nd Ave. Bushnell FL 33513
