Charles William Belcher's Obituary
Charles W. Belcher of Frisco, TX, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 8, 1933, in Pope Township, Fayette County, IL, to Charles Ransom and Minnie L. Belcher, Charlie lived a life full of dedication, love, and service.
Charlie graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, IL, and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a proud Korean War Veteran. On December 29, 1952, he married the love of his life, Carolyn J. Powers, in Elizabeth City, NC. Together, they built a loving family and shared countless adventures.
Charlie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Frisco, TX; his sons Bill (Claudia) of Dallas, TX, and Steve (Brenda) of Eau Claire, WI; his grandsons Neal of Dallas, TX, and Garrett of Menominee, WI; and one great-granddaughter, Rylie of Park Falls, WI. He was also a beloved uncle to numerous great nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life, Charlie was an active member of his community. He was a life-long member of Smith-Reynolds American Legion Post 511 of Paw Paw, IL, and volunteered with various organizations, including the Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department and The Snow Gypsies Snowmobile Club of Park Falls, WI, where he and Carolyn groomed thousands of miles of snowmobile trails over the years. Charlie also contributed to the Butternut/Schnur Lake Club of Butternut, WI, coached the Paw Paw American Legion Little League team, and served as Assistant Scout Master of the Boy Scout Troop of Paw Paw.
In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, and playing cards and board games with his wife, family, and friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his earlier years and even raced stock cars. His love for racing extended to his role as a volunteer and pace car driver at Dixieland Speedway in Elizabeth City, NC.
Charlie’s life was defined by his deep love for his family and his unwavering commitment to his community. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a cherished friend to many.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The American Legion, honoring Charlie's lifetime membership and dedication to this esteemed organization.
