Brian Matthew Smith's Obituary
Brian Matthew Smith, born on June 5, 1973, in Elgin, IL, passed away on July 4, 2024, in New Port Richey, FL. Brian grew up with his brother, sister and parents in a loving home in Elgin, Illinois and was a member of the Larkin High School graduating class of 1991, moving to Florida in 2003. He was a dedicated HVAC professional known for his skill and expertise in the field. Brian had a passion for classic rock and working on cars, often spending his free time tinkering and enhancing their performance. He enjoyed playing catch, frisbee and horseshoes when he wasn't at the baseball field cheering on his son. He was a huge fan of baseball, supporting both the Chicago Cubs and the Tampa Bay Rays with unwavering enthusiasm. One of his favorite moments was catching a Ryne Sandberg homerun at Wrigley Field.
Brian was originally diagnosed with cancer in early 2022. He was treated over the last two years at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL, bringing his positive energy and optimism to the other patients, as well as the medical staff. Brian leaves behind two cherished sons, Dylan Ganow and Evan Smith, who will continue to honor his memory. He is survived also by his sister, Ainsley (Todd) Evans of McHenry, IL, brother, Casey (Lisa) Smith of New Port Richey, nieces, Cadence and Keely Smith and Maisy and Maggie Evans and nephew, Cooper Smith, along with other relatives and friends. Brian is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Lori Smith, and his father, Bradley Smith. Brian was confirmed in the Methodist faith. He will be remembered for his silly, sarcastic sense of humor and the joy he brought to those around him.
Brian's service will be October 12th. At 11am we will have a graveside service at Grace Memorial Gardens in Hudson. It will be in The Garden of Peace. We will then have a celebration of life at noon until 2:30ish at The Elsie Logan park. It will be in the civic center.
