Audley W. Simon's Obituary
Audley W. Simon, 74, was called to his heavenly home on September 1, 2017. He was a faithful Christian, and his strong belief in God gave him peace and comfort in knowing that he would never be separated from the love of God.
Audley was born to the late Clarence and Beryl Simon in Saint James, Jamaica on November 7, 1942. As a youth, he moved to Saint Andrews, where he worked for the Ministry of Agriculture. In Saint Andrews, he developed lifelong friendships and a strong love of family, which he exemplified throughout his life. In 1971, Audley immigrated to Evanston, Illinois, where he attended technical school and was certified as an auto mechanic. He excelled in his career with the Bellsouth Telephone Company and, in 1985, Audley moved to Florida where he, through his optimism and ‘can-do’ attitude, was an entrepreneur who operated his own limo service for several years. He subsequently had a career as a tour bus driver until his retirement.
Audley was a loving and devoted father to three children, whom he raised with patience , kindness and the joy and love he felt for his grandchildren was second to none. He was a soft-spoken, self-reliant man who had an abundance of skills, and was the go-to person for many friends and family. In retirement, Audley remained very active. He was head usher at his church, Christian Life Assembly of God; volunteer with various local organizations; Homeowner Association member; and he was a participant in many church activities. He especially enjoyed time on the golf course, and he loved to travel. He was happily settled in Spring Hill, Florida, with his devoted wife, Melsaides (“Sadie”).
Audley is survived by his wife, Sadie; his daughter, Michelle Hanson, and son, Devon Simon; his two sisters, Veronica and Ardel Simon; three granddaughters, Tiffany and Ashley Hanson, and Monique Reid; step-daughter, Sonia Waters; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Beryl Simon, and daughter, Maxine Reid.
