Anne Bernadette Mulcahy's Obituary
Anne Bernadette Mulcahy, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and community leader, passed away on May 31, 2026, at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey, Florida.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 20, 1934, Anne was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Philomena Pellegrino. She carried throughout her life a deep sense of faith, service, and dedication to her family and community. As a young woman, Anne was a natural athlete, playing both softball and soccer, and was known for her intelligence—especially her strong aptitude for mathematics.
Anne was married to her loving husband, James Roger Mulcahy, for nearly 67 years, sharing a lifetime of love, partnership, and cherished memories. While raising her children, Anne devoted herself fully to being a stay-at-home mother, a role she considered the most important and fulfilling job of her life. Later, she became a successful realtor, a profession she remained in for many years.
Anne devoted much of her life to education and ministry. She taught religion at St. Charles Catholic Church and Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Staten Island, touching the lives of countless students through her guidance and faith. After relocating to Florida, she continued her mission as a 6th grade religion teacher and served as Youth Minister at St. Michael’s Parish, where she also founded the St. Vincent de Paul Society, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and service.
Her commitment to her community extended beyond the church. Anne served as President of the Staten Island Babe Ruth League, where she was deeply involved in youth athletics and mentorship. In 1973, she was honored as Woman of the Year by the Staten Island Babe Ruth League in recognition of her leadership and dedication. Through her involvement, her family enjoyed memorable experiences meeting notable baseball players, who visited during the league’s annual award dinner, sharing meals and engaging in inspiring conversations with the children.
She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and generously gave her time reading to the blind at Lighthouse, always seeking ways to help those in need with kindness and humility. She even devoted extraordinary time and care helping a disabled child recover, demonstrating her deep compassion, strength, and unwavering commitment to others.
Anne was known as someone who always took care of things—constantly moving, always helping, and willing to give someone the shirt off her back. Kind and caring by nature, she lived a life rooted in generosity and compassion. An avid animal lover, she had a special place in her heart for all creatures and found joy in their companionship. She also loved to cook, often preparing meals for her friends and family as a way of bringing people together and showing her love. In her free time, before her illness, she enjoyed going out to eat with her family, tending to her garden, planting flowers, and keeping her yard neat and beautiful.
She is survived by her devoted husband, James Roger Mulcahy; her three loving children: Thomas Mulcahy, Jude Mulcahy, and James Mulcahy Jr (Allie); and her cherished grandchildren: Dylan McDaniel, Jimmy Mulcahy, and Anthony Mulcahy. She is also survived by her brother, Frank Pellegrino (Barbara), along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Philomena Pellegrino; her sisters, Mary Kaminski and Theresa Capatini; her daughter-in-law, Danita Kay Mulcahy; and her grandson, Michael Mulcahy.
Anne will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her dedication to education and service, and the love she shared with her family and community. Her legacy of kindness, leadership, and devotion will continue to live on in all who knew her.
