Ann Irene Vitori's Obituary
Ann Irene Vitori was born August 7, 1931 in Pittsburgh PA. Married in 1951 to Michael Wanczak - (deceased May 1958) She had 4 children, Michael (passed shortly after birth) David Michael; Sept. 1953 Valerie Ann; Nov. 1954 and Ronald Jay; Feb. 1958. Ann’s first husband and father of her children passed away at a young age due to a long illness. To make ends meet as a single mom, she became employed as a secretary. She started dating Frank Vitori and married him Feb 13, 1961. He officially adopted all of us kids and moved us out of PA to Brooklyn, NY where we lived in a small apartment for 1 year. After Frank started working at a Manhattan Studio and then opened his own business, we moved to a house in Long Island where Ann attended nursing school. She graduated with an RN degree in 1968 and began working at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She continued her education at CW Post to get her Masters degree in Nursing Administration and became the Nursing Administrator at Queens Children’s Hospital in Queens, NY. Not being satisfied with just that, she continued for her Doctorate in Epidemiology. She was commissioned by NY State to write a book on “Needles’ which was published as a training guide for employees. Then she began consulting for NY State and taught infection control seminars at NY area hospitals. Still not content with only one full time job, she worked part time for The Red Cross teaching CPR and First Aid. She also volunteered with the American Heart Association and Kidney Foundation because she had a few minutes to spare! I called her the “energizer bunny” because she never sat down. Grandsons Devin, called her a “tour de force” and Shane, called her a “brick house” because she always playfully tried to judo flip all 6 ft of him! She loved her family and friends and would do anything for them. She loved parties and got really silly after a half glass of wine. Ann was a good baker, if you were lucky enough to received her cookies freshly baked. She was great at sewing and crafting which she passed on to me. When we were young, she was both our Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. Mom was always adventurous and would try almost anything once. She tried snow skiing, water skiing, parasailing, skating, and surfing the waves at Jones Beach which created some pretty comical visuals! She loved animals and growing up, we had many. Our dad Frank called her Huncha or Annie, colleagues called her doctor, we just called her mom. Ann’s children: David and Astrid Vitori, Ron and Connie Vitori and Vaterie and Ken Shapiro; her grandchildren: Jennifer and Regan Weiss, Joshua Vitori, Frank and Molly Vitori, Michael Vitori, Addie Farabaugh, Gina Vitori, Shane and Cassandra Kehoe and Devin and Krystina Kehoe; Her Great Grandchildren: Madisyn, Makinley, Taylor, Reid and Frank Donovan, Kaydence and Logan.
