Alfred Berckovits' Obituary
Alfred Berckovits, 89, of Weeki Wachee, Florida passed away 12:30 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at his residence.
Alfred was born December 28, 1933 in Manhattan, New York, devoted son of the late Joseph Berckovits and the late Mary (Muik) Berckovits. Alfred served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He was married in July 1958 and shortly thereafter, moved to East Northport, Long Island, NY where he raised his family and lived for 34 years. Alfred was a dedicated employee at Lever Brothers Company (Unilever) for almost 40 years before retiring in 1990 and moving to Weeki Wachee, Florida.
In New York, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Later he served the parish of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Florida as a Eucharistic Minister for 10 years and volunteered at the St. Vincent dePaul Food Pantry & Thrift Store.
Alfred was survived by his loving wife, Melosine “Sina” (Witt) Berckovits; his daughters: Annemarie (Jerald) Furphy, Denise (Tobias) Monaco, Lisa (Gregory) Accardo and Christina (Paul) Worsfold; grandchildren: Timothy (Victoria) Furphy, Kathryn (Melissa) Furphy, Nicholas (Monica) Monaco, Samantha Monaco, Brian Accardo, Matthew (Kelly) Worsfold, Melissa Worsfold, Madison Worsfold; great-granchildren: Morgan, Baylen, Hudson, Maverick, Amelia, Emma and Elliott; his sister: Rosemary Harrison and many nieces and nephews. Alfred was most proud of his family and loved planning and attending the family reunion held each year since 2001.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Grace Memorial Funeral Home in Hudson, Florida, with a Wake Service at 3:45p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2023 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Spring Hill, Florida, with burial to follow in Grace Memorial Garden Cemetery in Hudson, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Hernando/Citrus District Council Society of St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry & Thrift Store, 1291 Kass Circle, Spring Hill, Florida 34606 or a charity of personal choice.
