I began working with Dan Myers in 1982. We were both consultants. His specialty was Systems Engineering, in Information Technology (IT) projects. Mine was Project Management, in IT projects, and other specialty areas, including Aerospace.
One of my first international engagements was a trip to San Paulo, Brazil, where I taught Project Management to 50 participants, in a four-day, simultaneous translated, workshop. Working through an associate, Dan organized and arranged that event.
Over the next several years, I worked with Dan, who then lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At that time, I lived in Eugene, Oregon, where I had gone to college. After that, I managed interesting projects for Lane County, for 15 years. Based on our long-distance work with Dan, I decided to move to Colo-rado Springs, so we were closer together.
From 1985 through 2000, Dan and I experienced great success in Systems Engineering and Project Management. We formed a company, The Guide Associates, that developed a methodology, or systematic process. The Guide improved the project and business success of hundreds of businesses, government agencies, and large, medium and small consultancies.
When he married Brenda Helms, he ‘upped his game’ even higher—in his professional successes, in his golf game, and with his circle of friends and associates.
After 2000, I changed my focus to volunteer work, helping professional associations and developing nations to improve their business results. Dan, and his wonderful wife, Brenda, remained great friends, but had moved away from Colorado. We still got together to visit when we could.
The last time we saw Dan and Brenda was in January, 2020. We visited them in Florida, and shared many wonderful memories.
Dan was a wonderful friend, a professional expert in his specialties, and a change agent for learners, practitioners, enterprises, and society. Thank you, Dan, and bless you, Brenda!
