As a little girl i was so affride of you giving orders to all us kids, it was not until years later that I realized you was really a teady bear. Thank you for being a wonderful uncle, father, husband, brother and friend to so many. You knew my love for both you and Aunt Mary....we will watch after her till you, we meet again. I was on the Mullinnix as the Electronics Material Officer and as a shipmate with Master Chief Ross. On a small ship, all hands have to work together.

Master Chief Ross was a huge man in my life. No mentor had a bigger heart. Demanding and compationate. The Navy taught me how to lead men; Carl taught me how to lead them with my heart! Our paths first crossed in 1971 when I was a student in 1200 PSI steam plant maintenance school as a MM2 on my way to the USS Mullinnix and he was lead instructor. Three years later, Senior Chief Ross reported aboard the "Mighty MUX" as my leading Chief. I have been learning from him ever since! Carl, ole buddy, save room for me on YOUR cloud. Master Chief Ross is one of my fondest memories of my time on the Mullinnix. He took a real interest in the crew whether they directly worked for him or not. Spent many watch hours with the Master Chief listening to his stories and soaking in his advice. Am very thankful I was able to reconnect with him at reunions.RIP Chief Ross, you are missed and loved

My husband & I attended our first ship reunion in Virginia Beach in 2000. Carl and Mary were so gracious and friendly. We have only missed a few reunions since then.We will miss him.Hopefully he and my husband have met in heaven and are having lots of fun. When I joined Mullinnix in 1973 as a Boot Ensign, Master Chief Ross was one of the first to greet me and make me feel at home. He gave me great advice during my entire tour onboard. He was one of the finest! Rest in eternal peace Master Chief. CDR Bruce Spalding U.S.N. (Retired)
